Jagat Prakash Nadda
Jagat Prakash Nadda is an Indian lawyer and politician who is currently serving as the president of BJP since June 17, 2019. JP Nadda is the former Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh and Parliamentary Board Secretary of BJP Earlier, he was a Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government.
Inspired by the J. P. Movement to join the Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti. Shri Nadda was the Secretary, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Patna University, 1977 – 79. Joint Secretary, ABVP, Himachal Pradesh State Unit, 1980 – 82 and Secretary, ABVP, Himachal Pradesh State, 1980 – 83. He was the President of Himachal Pradesh University Students’ Union, 1983 – 84, the Zonal Secretary of ABVP, Himachal Pradesh Zone, 1985 – 86.
He became the National Secretary and Organsing Secretary, ABVP, Delhi Unit, 1986 – 89. Shri Nadda was detained for 45 days for leading a campaign for up – grading schools He Organized, Rashtriya Sangarsh Morcha against corruption, 1987. Shri Nadda was the Election In – charge for Youth wing of BJP during the Lok Sabha Elections, 1989 and May 1990. He became the General Secretary of BJP in Himachal Pradesh in the year 1990 – 91.
He was appointed as President All India Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, 1991 – 94 & became the National General Secretary, BJP since May 2010.
Served 3 terms as MLA at Himachal Pradesh
Shri JP Nadda was elected thrice as the Member of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Firstly in 1993 from Bilaspur district of HP & then re-elected 1998 & 2007.From 1994-1998 Shri JP Nadda served as the leader of BJP Legislative group in HP Legislative Assembly.
Cabinet Minister of Government of Himachal Pradesh:
1998-2003 Shri Nadda ji served as Cabinet Minister, Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Himachal Pradesh 2008-2010 Cabinet Minister, Forest, Environment, Science and Technology, Government of Himachal Pradesh April 2012 Elected to Rajya Sabha May 2012 onwards Member, Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture Aug.
In 2012, he got elected to the upper house of the Indian Parliament- Rajya Sabha. He became a Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture in May 2012. May 2013 onwards he was a Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Privileges. In 2014 a Cabinet reshuffle took place & Prime Minister Narendra Modi made Shri JP Nadda the Minister of Health. He was appointed as the national working president of BJP in June 2019. In 2020 he was elected as the BJP National President.
Ek Muthi Chawal:
Shri JP Nadda on launched a new and innovative scheme “Ek Mutthi Chawal Sangrah” for farmers in West Bengal, a PAN state door-to-door rice collection scheme , from Jagadanandapur village in Bardhaman district, which is also known as the “rice bowl” of the state. Ek Mutthi Chawal Sangrah” campaign was aimed at re-establishing the commitment towards the growth & prosperity of the farmers. He began the day with farmers by offering prayers at Shri Radha Gobind Temple in Katwa, he then also addressed Krishok Surokkha Gram Sabha, had lunch with a farmer household, offered prayers at Sarbamangala Temple and ended the day with a roadshow from Burdwan Clock Tower to Lord Curzon Gate.
Big victory in Assembly Elections:
Shri Nadda was appointed as the president of the party in January 2020. Since then the country has undergone 2 Assembly elections in Bihar and Delhi in 2020 and 5 Assembly elections in 2021 i,e in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and 5 states went to polls in February and March 2022 year Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa. Out of the 7 states that went into polls in 2020 & 2021 the BJP formed government in Bihar, Puducherry and Assam. 4 states that went to the polls in 2022—Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. In Shri Nadda’s period as the president the party has contested elections in 12 states and formed governments in 7 of them. His hardwork & dedication to serve the people and motherland & continuous and relentless efforts to take the party to new heights each time with the support of PM Shri Narendra Modi and other members of the party have proved beneficial for the country as well as the party.
BJP has been making its remarkable space in states of J&K , Telangana, West Bengal & Madhya Pradesh. With election soon to approach J&K the commission has proposed 90 seats, with 43 seats in Jammu and 47 seats in the Valley region. Under the presidency of Shri Nadda ji the party has been working to aim towards growth of the states. The members are working to win seats in Jammu region and also win seats in the Valley. In West Bengal, BJP has been proving to set a tough competition for TNC.
BJP; The Largest Party in the World:
BJP has become world’s largest party in terms if membership with its enrolment drive in the past five months taking its membership to a high of 8.80 crore leaving behind Communist Party of China under the General Secretary post of Shri Nadda. The BJP launched the mega membership drive with the call for "saath aaye desh banaye’. The party is now at cadre based with 18 crores members.

Shri Nadda Ji has represented the country at various International stages with his prescence. In U.S.A. he was present as member of Indian delegation to study the American Presidential Elections, 1992-93,. He visited Doha in Qatar, to attend a seminar on 'Enriching the Middle East's Economic Future', March 2008, Australia, to study the health care system.He went to China, to attend 26th Executive Committee Meeting of Partners in Population and Development. On 26 - 27 March 2015, Geneva (Switzerland), to attend Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting (CHMM) as the President of the 68th World Health Assembly. On 16 - 26 May 2015, he was present in Maldives, to attend Golden Jubilee Celebration of Independence of Maldives as the Special Envoy of Prime Minister. 26 - 27 July 2015 Dhaka (Bangladesh) to attend the Annual Board Meeting of Partners in Population and Development, 18 - 21 November 2015 at Nusa Dua Indonesia to attend the inaugural function and Plenary of the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) : Family Planning and New Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 25 - 26 January 2016 he presided at Tokyo to attend the Asian Health Ministers meet on Antimicrobial Resistance. On 16 April 2016, he was in Colombo (Sri Lanka) to attend the 69th Session of the WHO Regional Committee (RC) for South East Asia Region. He went to Berlin to attend the 29th Stop TB Partnership Coordination Board and G 20 Health
Ministers` Meeting. 18-20 May 2017, Geneva (Switzerland), to attend the 70th WHA/CHMM and BRICS Health Ministers Meeting. In the summer of 21-25 May 2017 he was present at 71st WHA and CHMM on 20-23 May 2018. Shri Nadda ji attended the 7th BRICS Health Ministers` Meeting, 5-7 July 2017, (xiv) Australia, to attend the International Digital Health Symposium in Tianjin,China. In February 2018 he went to Moscow (Russia), to attend the Global Ministerial Conference on `Ending TB`, 16-17 November 2017, Durban (South Africa) to attend the 8th BRICS Health Ministers` Meeting. In July 2018 he went to New York to attend the UN-HLM on TB and NCD. On 25-28 September 2018; Canada, Costa Rica, Greece, U.K. and Turkey for various other international level meetings & events.
Sports & Recreation:
Shri Nadda ji has also served at prestigious positions in Sports & Recreational activities. He served as the President of Olympic Association, Himachal Pradesh, 2008 – 2012. President at Himachal Handball Association and President of Himachal Archery Association. He is the Member Trustee of Special Olympics Bharat. Shri Nadda ji Represented Bihar State in All India Junior Swimming Championship held at Delhi.
